Being both sweet-tooth and as someone who loves bread and desserts in general, our personal favorite go-to place in the hotel’s Gourmet Walk is Madeleine.
A French inspired bread and pastry shop, Madeleine is the hotel’s premier patisserie and boulangerie that serves quiches, delectable cakes, chocolate confections and freshly baked bread.
LOCATION AND AMBIANCE
Located in the West Wing of Waterfront Hotel, Madeleine gives off a comfortable and pleasant ambiance. We liked that the cafe is not restricted with glass or brick walls. Inspired by French bakeshops and Parisian cafes with an al fresco set-up, Madeleine has its tables and chairs lined up a few meters away from their counter and display. This gives ample of space for customers to gaze at Madeleine’s mouthwatering assortment of pastries and choose from their wide array of fresh bread and baked goods. In one setting, the bakeshop can accommodate up to twenty-four people.
DELIGHTFUL PASTRIES AND CAKES
Under French Executive Pastry Chef Benoit Andre Laboreux, Madeleine, introduced new delightful offerings to the table. In addition to their original cakes and desserts : Chocolate Delice, Oreo Ivory Mousse and Triple Chocolate Mousse, Chef Benoit whipped new creations that are pleasant to the palate: Island Cake, Mille-Feuilles, Crunchy Choco Baileys.
Madeleine also offers Danish bread (strawberry and blueberry), Doughnuts with vanilla pastry cream filling and Tuna sandwiches. They also make custom made cakes that are perfect for special occasions. The price of custom made cakes ranges from P15,000 to P20,000 at a minimum depending on the design and number of layers. If you’re planning to have your cake custom made, you need to notify them at least two weeks or a month before the event.
Among the newly introduced cakes by Chef Benoit, our favorite is Mille-Feuilles. It’s a flaky puff dough with vanilla pastry cream. We like that it’s light and not too sweet. For those who love tangy and fruity flavor, we recommend the Island cake. It’s a light sponge cake with passion fruit and mango filling and coated with desiccated coconut. With their classic cakes, a must try is Chocolate Delice. It’s a moist, pure chocolate, flourless cake. It’s so dense you’d easily get full with only a few spoonful!
FRESHLY BAKED BREAD AND GOODIES
Aside from their best-selling pastries, Madeleine also sells muffins, ensaymada and a variety of loaf bread (e.g. banana bread and cinnamon with raisin)
PROMO ALERT : If you want to score great deals and maximize your money’s worth, Madeleine usually runs a promo after 7PM on selected breads. You can buy some their best selling breads such as banana bread, carrot bread, wheat bread, pandesal and white bread at 40% off.
As a perfect complement for their pastries and baked goodies, Madeleine also offers hot and cold drinks, soda and fresh fruit juices and shakes. When eating desserts and pastries, we love pairing it with coffee. So I had Latte on the Rocks while Gi had Mocha Latte.
