A pageantry of faith which is celebrated through colorful dance rituals and processions to commemorate Cebuano’s pagan roots and its introduction to Christianity, Sinulog has become one of the grandest and most renowned festivity in the country that’s held every third Sunday of January. And to add more colors and fun to the festival in Cebu, Jolly Heart Mate Canola Oil brought Donita Rose for a live cooking demo show.
The celebrity chef has toured Davao, Naga and Bacolod for Jolly Heart Mate Canola Oil’s series of festival cooking demos around the country. And as part of the last leg of her nationwide tour, a cooking extravaganza at SM City Cebu Event Center on January 14 was held. Cebuanos were delighted to see Chef Donita prepare Popiah, a vegetable spring roll that’s famous in Cebu, adding her own twist to the recipe using her cooking techniques and unique fresh ingredients.
Aside from getting cooking tips from the celebrity chef, Cebu mommies and foodies got the chance to try the dish made by Chef Donita during the mall show. Alongside the cooking show, they were also several games and exciting prizes prepared by Jolly Heart Mate Canola Oil.
DONITA ROSE : FROM ACTING TO COOKING
From being an actress and an MTV VJ, Donita is now a culinary superstar.
Unbeknownst to many, Donita is not just a celebrity product endorser. After her hosting job and showbiz career, Donita enrolled in a culinary school and completed a degree in Culinary Arts from The Academy for International Culinary Arts (AICA) in 2012.
Chef Donita has worked in Crowne Plaza Hotel Manila and then she moved to Las Vegas to learn various cuisines such as Italian, Japanese, and many more. She has also worked for a high-end Japanese restaurant in Mandalay Bay, Las vegas. With her passion for cooking, Chef Donita was chosen as the Brand Ambassador for Jolly Mate Canola Oil.
HEARTY AND HEALTHY
“The Cebuanos, with their wide array of food cuisines, really love to eat particularly during the week-long festival of Sinulog. Our culture is practically centered on food which brings families closer, so we should also be aware of how we prepare the food and what ingredients we use for the dishes that we serve,” said Donita.
Chef Donita helped Cebuanos prepare delicious dishes using their harvest, and making it heart healthy with the use of Jolly Heart Mate Canola Oil during the cokig show extravaganza.
“We must always be conscious that the ingredients we use should be good for the heart, like Jolly Heart Mate Canola Oil which contains the lowest amount of bad fats (saturated fats) but packs in the good kind like omega3 and 6,” Donita shared.
