Jr. NBA Philippines 2017 presented by Alaska held its regional selection camp for the Visayas last weekend at Don Bosco Technology Center at Pleasant Homes Subdivision, Buhisan Road, Cebu City from March 11 to 12, 2017
This is the sixth time that the Jr. NBA staged its Regional Selection Camp in Cebu.
Boys and girls aged 10 to 14 were invited to participate in a learn-and-achieve camp that tested their physical and basketball smarts through NBA style skills tests and basketball drills. The two-day selection camp started at 9am on March 11. The final selection of Visayan finalists was announced on March 12.
On the first day of the regional selection camp, participants underwent vitals tests, skills test and drills. After which, the top performers of the day were selected based on their scores. On the second day, participants went through more intense drills, team activities and scrimmages that determined the level of their basketball skills.
Jr. NBA coaches led by Coach Chris Sunner and local Jr. NBA coaches led by PBA Legend Jeffrey Cariaso facilitated the camp alongside local volunteer coaches. They also made the final selection for the regional finalists. The selected players will represent the Visayas in the National Training Camp that will be held in Manila on May 12 to 14.
At the National Training Camp, eight boys and eight girls will be chosen from among the finalists from the various regions and the Alaska Power Camp. They will be named this year’s Jr. NBA and Jr. WNBA All-Stars and will enjoy a unique NBA experience later in the year that will also give them the opportunity to play with other Jr. NBA All-Stars from the Southeast asian Region.
Young ballers can register for the Regional Selection Camps through the Jr. NBA event website www.jrnba.asia/philippines, where full program terms and conditions can be found.
Registration and participation in the camp are absolutely free. After Cebu, the last Jr. NBA Regional Selection Camp will be held in Manila from April 1 to 2.
